Code of Conduct

Empire Dance Company Code of Conduct

Empire Dance LLC · Under the direction of Bree Cobb

Our Commitment

Empire Dance Company is built on collaboration, unity, and collective creativity, and we welcome dancers and audiences of all ages and skill levels. This Code of Conduct explains how we treat one another and what we ask of everyone who takes part in our community, in person and online.

Who This Applies To

This Code of Conduct applies to everyone connected to Empire Dance: Team Members, instructors, guest artists and collaborators, audience members, families and guests, vendors, venue staff, and our followers online. It applies at rehearsals, classes, performances, competitions, events, and concept videos, and on our social media pages and other communication channels.

What We Expect From Everyone

  • Respect. Treat everyone with kindness and respect, whether you are a dancer, a guest, or a stranger in the comments.

  • Inclusion. Empire is for everyone. Discrimination, exclusion, and cliques have no place in our community.

  • Support. Cheer each other on and lift each other up. The success of one is the success of all of us.

  • Safety. Take care of yourself and others. Respect personal space and physical boundaries, and speak up if you are injured or uncomfortable.

  • Care for shared spaces. Treat our studio and every venue with respect, follow the venue’s rules, and leave each space as you found it, or better.

  • Consent for photos and video. Ask before filming or posting images of others, and honor anyone’s request not to be photographed or filmed.

For Audiences and Guests

We love sharing our work with you. Please be respectful of our performers, other audience members, and venue staff, and follow all venue and event guidelines, including any rules on photography and recording. Please do not post rehearsal footage or unreleased content without permission from Empire Dance.

Our Online Community

We love when you share your support for Empire online. Please keep comments and messages respectful. We reserve the right to remove comments and block accounts that include harassment, hate speech, threats, or content that is demeaning to others.

What We Do Not Tolerate

  • Harassment or sexual harassment, including unwelcome advances, inappropriate contact, and sexually suggestive comments or gestures

  • Bullying, intimidation, or threatening behavior

  • Discrimination or demeaning comments based on race, ethnicity, gender, gender identity or expression, sexual orientation, religion, disability, age, or physical appearance

  • Sharing offensive, explicit, or demeaning content in any Empire space or channel

  • Damaging the studio, venues, equipment, or the property of others

  • Disruptive behavior that interferes with rehearsals, performances, or events

  • Conduct that violates the law

  • Retaliation against anyone who makes a good faith report

Reporting a Concern

If you experience or witness behavior that goes against this Code of Conduct, please let us know as soon as possible. Contact Director Bree Cobb in person, by phone, or by email at empiredancenj@outlook.com. All reports will be taken seriously and handled with as much confidentiality as the situation allows. Retaliation against anyone who makes a good faith report is strictly prohibited.

Our Response

Where appropriate, we will begin with a respectful conversation. Depending on the nature and severity of a violation, Empire Dance may issue a warning, ask a person to leave a rehearsal, performance, or event, or restrict someone from attending future events or participating in our online spaces. Team Members are also subject to the policies in the Empire Dance Team Handbook. Empire Dance determines, at its sole discretion, whether a violation has occurred.

Thank you for helping us build a community where everyone feels welcome.
